Loadout

Scoop tanks

1,621 gallons

Fill: Scoop while planing on a lake at 40–110 kt: full in about 6 seconds. Or reload at the airtanker base in about 12 seconds.

Drop: A full load releases in 2.5 seconds; tap for partial drops.

Flying the Super Scooper

You start on the runway at the airtanker base. Push the throttle up with Space or the mouse wheel, and lift off at about 72 kt by holding S (the pitch keys work like a flight stick: S pulls the nose up, W pushes it down).

To scoop, line up along a long lake, throttle back, and let down gently onto the water. Keep your speed in the band while SCOOPING shows, then full throttle and climb away. Turn away from high ground after lift-off.

Tips

  • Approach from the open, low end of a lake and climb out over open ground: a loaded plane climbs slowly.
  • Touch down gently and not too fast, or you ditch.
  • Watch for PULL UP: it means the normal climb can't clear the ground ahead. Hold climb or turn away.

The real Super Scooper

The Canadair CL-415 is a twin-turboprop amphibious "flying boat" built for firefighting. It skims across a lake at about 70 knots, lowers two small probes into the water, and fills its tanks in around 12 seconds without ever stopping.

Because it refills on the move, a scooper can make many drops an hour when there is a long, open lake near the fire.

Dip & Drop isn't affiliated with any aircraft maker or operator. The model and paint are the game's own; numbers are tuned for play.
